Here is a list of 1st Choice Super Premium ingredients and their main characteristics and benefits.
Natural Protein Sources
- Chicken Meal of high quality: Excellent source of proteins, to meet your dog’s requirements;
- Dehydrated Chicken of high quality: It is used instead of fresh chicken since it has a more concentrated nutritional value. It is low in ash, which is important when formulating foods for dogs;
- Lamb Meal of high quality: Another excellent source of proteins and minerals (calcium and phosphorus). Helps to improve the palatability of the food;
- Duck meal of high quality: A new, superior quality source of highly digestible protein that helps reduce the risk of food allergies (scratching and digestion problems);
- Whole dehydrated eggs: Source of high quality proteins, 100% metabolizable, low in ash and rich in selenium which is an antioxidant (help boost the immune system);
- Corn Gluten Meal: It is composed by 60% vegetable protein.
Quality Fats and Oils
- Chicken Fat: Source of essential fatty acids (linoleic
and arachidonic Omega-6 fatty acids) and energy; increases the flavour
of the foods. It also helps the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins
such as vitamins A, D, E, and K.
- Lecithin: Phospho-lipid derived from beans. Contains
high quantities of linoleic acid (Omega- 6 fatty acid), which improves
condition of skin and coat. It also contains choline, to help support
central nervous system.
- Canola oil: One of the unique sources of Omega-9 fatty acid, or Oleic acid, which improves immune system function and may have protective effects over some cancers.
Grains and Vegetables
- Corn: Excellent energy source which contains most of the essential amino acids, except for tryptophan and lysine;
- Barley, Brewer’s Rice, and Oat: Were added as a new source of carbohydrates. Oat fiber can slow digestion, avoiding sudden blood sugar raises (helps diabetics). Barley reduces inflammation in the digestive and urinary systems. Brewer’s rice is good for diabetes. They are all hypoallergenic;
- Brown Rice: Rich source of fibre and thiamine (vitamin B1);
- Potatoes: Premium quality carbohydrates, rich in potassium and highly digestible energy source.
Fibers
- Beet pulp: Serves to regulate the functionality of the gastrointestinal tract and thus improves stool consistency;
- Sun-dried tomato pomace: Helps regulate the gastrointestinal functionality, dilute the food’s caloric density and satiate the pet. Rich in antioxidants such as Vitamin E, beta carotenes, and lycopenes.
Special Function Ingredients
- Cellulose: Natural ingredient that helps keep teeth clean over their entire surface and slows tartar buildup. It enhances stool consistency, dilutes the food’s caloric density, satiates the pet and increases fat absorption;
- Whole flax seeds: Rich in alpha-linolenic acid (Omega-3
fatty acid), thus serving to balance Omega-3 to Omega-6 ratio. Help
boost immunity and decrease inflammation. Act as a prebiotic, improving
beneficial intestinal flora health.
- Mannan-oligosaccharides (Bio-Mos): Used as a prebiotic, they increase diet’s digestibility and improve the health of the beneficial intestinal flora. By improving intestinal health, nutrient digestion and absorption are both increased, consequently reinforcing the animal’s overall health and immunity.
- Glucosamin and chondroitin sulfate : Provides
the cartilage-forming cells (chondrocytes) the building blocks they
need to synthesize new cartilage and repair the existing damaged
cartilage. These ingredients can help relieve the pain, but primarily
work by actually healing the damage that has been done.
- DL-Methionine: Urinary acidifying agent that helps protect the health of the urinary tract, thus helping prevent the formation of crystals.
- L-Carnitine: Similar to some vitamins; helps move fat reserves and make them excellent energy sources for the muscles and the heart, helping at the same time to reduce weight.
- Extracts of Yucca schidigera: Yucca extract is used as a food additive which can reduce ammonia and fecal odors in animal excreta.
- Chelated Minerals (Copper, Iron, Manganese, Cobalt, and Zinc): Chelated minerals or “proteinates” improve the bioavailability of these minerals to the organism and consequently, their absorption.
- Zinc and a group of antioxidants (beta-carotene, Vitamin
C, Vitamin E, and organic selenium). They support the body on eliminating
free radicals, therefore help to boost the immune system to reduce
the risk of chronic or metabolic diseases.
